NASAA Helps Law Enforcement Investigate Investment Fraud

The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) has launched a program to help law enforcement officials protect the public against securities fraud. The program will provide law enforcement with the resources and information needed to better understand the complexities of investment fraud.

Created in 1919, NASAA works to protect U.S. investors from all types of securities fraud. Their mission is to protect investors who purchase securities or financial guidance. They are responsible for licensing firms, investigating violations of the law, and educating the general public about the various types of investment fraud.

NASAA’s Law Enforcement Outreach Program

NASAA has designed the Law Enforcement Outreach Program to educate and train law enforcement officials to recognize and be able to investigate incidences of securities fraud. Authorities will also be trained to answer the questions of investors who suspect that they have been a victim of securities fraud. NASAA hopes to strengthen the relationship between local law enforcement agencies and state securities regulators.

The program will include a “Securities 101” handbook that will educate law enforcement officials on the various financial products that are classified as securities under the law.
